ZoxoHome
- A rule says it “runs in ZoxoHome while it’s open”. What does that mean?
- Your home hub can’t send notifications or wait between steps, so rules that do are run by the ZoxoHome app instead. On iPhone and iPad that works while ZoxoHome is on screen; on a Mac, while its window is open. Times missed while the app was closed aren’t caught up later. Rules without a notification or a wait run on the hub around the clock. With the free ZoxoHome Helper running on a computer at home that stays on, the hub can run those rules too.
- Why does my rule need a home hub?
- Apple Home runs automations on an Apple TV or HomePod set up as your home hub. Without one, HomeKit keeps the rule but won’t run it. The Automations tab shows whether your hub is connected.
- ZoxoHome won’t take over one of my Apple Home automations.
- If any part of it has no exact match in ZoxoHome, such as “any press” of a button or a colour or fan-speed setting, ZoxoHome refuses rather than change what it does, and lists the reasons. The automation keeps running as it is.
- How do I make a rule for a particular person, like “when Anna gets home”?
- Make it in Apple’s Home app, then take it over in ZoxoHome. HomeKit doesn’t let other apps choose people, so ZoxoHome keeps the people Apple Home chose and lets you change everything else.
- Siri or a widget opens ZoxoHome instead of just running the scene.
- That’s expected. HomeKit only lets an app control your home while it’s open, so each shortcut, widget and Control Center button opens ZoxoHome to do the work. If a scene or rule is missing, open ZoxoHome once so it can update the list.
- Sunrise and sunset rules don’t work in Try it.
- Set the home’s location in Settings so ZoxoHome can work out sunrise and sunset. Rules on the home hub don’t need this; the hub works out its own.
- My rules don’t show up on my other device.
- Turn on “Sync rules with iCloud” in Settings on each device, and check that they’re signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud on.
- Can ZoxoHome tell who’s home?
- The home hub can, and rules on the hub can use “someone is home”, “nobody is home” and “I’m home”. Rules the app runs can’t, because HomeKit doesn’t give that to apps; the editor tells you when that applies.
- Describe a rule says Apple Intelligence isn’t available.
- Apple’s model needs iOS 26 on a device that supports Apple Intelligence, turned on in iOS Settings. Otherwise, in ZoxoHome’s Settings › Describing rules, pick Claude (with an API key from Anthropic) or ChatGPT (sign in with ChatGPT, or an OpenAI API key), then allow sending descriptions to that company. They bill your account or count against your ChatGPT plan for what drafting uses.
- What does cloud drafting send?
- What you typed and the names of your accessories, rooms and scenes, with the kind of controls each has, only to the company you picked and only once you’ve allowed it. Never accessory states, your location or who is home. See Privacy.
- Does ZoxoHome work with my accessory?
- If it works in Apple’s Home app, ZoxoHome can see it. Accessories that only work with another company’s app need a HomeKit or Matter bridge first.
